About Me

Updated: Dec 13, 2022

I'm Mousa /'mʊsa/. I'm an aspiring English teacher, teacher trainer, and material writer. I'm originally from Yemen, was born in Saudi Arabia, and I'm currently based in Russia, in a lovely city in the heart of Siberia called Krasnoyarsk. My mother tongue is Arabic, I was exposed to English at an early age - 7 years old, and I fell in love with the language. Ever since I've always been keen on English as a learner. Never have I ever thought I'd become a teacher of English but when I started teaching English informally/privately, I found out how meaningful it is for me. I later started taking it seriously and spent a decent fortune on educating myself about it. I'm still learning every day from my lessons, my students, my colleagues and mentors.

In The ELT

I'm glad that I had opportunities to teach in different contexts with different age categories. I've worked with kindergarteners, children, adolescents, teenagers, adults, and seniors. I've taught General English, ESP, EAP, IELTS, Business English, Cambridge Exams. I've worked with groups and individual classes both online and in-class. I've taken part in language camps, English-speaking clubs, school events, and parents gatherings.

Qualifications and Certificates

I'm an advocate of CPD, and I stand by the believe that the only time we get to give up learning is the day we leave this world. I'm a CELTA (Grade A) certified teacher. I've recently completed my DELTA integrated course, comprising all three modules. Similarly, I'm a Cambridge certified trainer, and holder of Train-the-Trainer certification. I've obtained several certificates in India from The Teachers' Academy in IELTS Coaching, English Writing, and English Communication. I also hold TKT certificates in the main core Modules 1, 2, 3, and YL (Band 4).

My beliefs

I believe in learner autonomy and the cruciality of enabling the learner to take responsibility for his/her learning. I also know that a person can never learn a language by accident or just by exposure solely; there should be conscious attention and effort from the learner's side. Learners are different, not only characteristically but also in terms of their natural abilities and speed of picking up language, and stance. Motivation forms the backbone of learning and learners have to see the relevance or utility of language in their life. Finally, authenticity is the most precious trait a teacher can bring into the lesson, especially these days when teaching has become a mechanical interaction where the teacher knows it all and the student gets it all from the teacher.

Why blog?

The initiative stems from my own way of reflection. I tend to learn more by writing and sharing what I have in my bag. I'm convinced that knowledge by itself is useless unless it's applied, and in order to apply what we learn, we have to practice reflection.

Who is the Blog for?

Whether you're just starting off or already down the road as an ESL teacher/trainer or simply a learner who's intrinsically motivated and eager to know more about learning and the language, this blog will give you, hopefully, some insight about language acquisition, approaches, materials, resources, tips, experiments, experiences and researches.

Hobbies

Apart from English teaching and learning, here are some things I'm interested in:

- Bodybuilding and fitness

- Reading, mostly self-help books, bodybuilding, health, nutrition

- Country and rap music

- fishing

- travelling
